Choices, choices, choices! [UPDATED x2]

iMac vs. PB

Update: I’m once again rethinking my decision, read this comment.

Update 2: I decided, this is a needs vs. wants issue - I don’t need a new Mac so I’m going to save whatever money I make from the Ti and use it for other things! (imagines sighs of relief from pissed off commenters).

Well in a followup to this entry - I’m now not so sure I want that 15″ PowerBook that I was talking about, because I just noticed the following, I can get this:

  • 20″ 2.1ghz iMac G5
  • 512MB memory (533MHz DDR2 SDRAM)
  • 250GB Serial ATA hard drive
  • ATI Radeon X600 XT (128MB DDR video memory)
  • Front Row with Apple Remote
  • Built-in iSight camera
  • $1299

or

  • 15″ 1.67ghz PowerBook G4
  • 512MB DDR2 PC2-4200 SDRAM
  • 80GB Hard Drive
  • ATI Mobility Radeon 9700 (128MB DDR)
  • AirPort Extreme
  • Bluetooth 2.0+Enhanced Data Rates
  • Backlit keyboard
  • Scrolling Trackpad
  • Dual link DVI
  • $1599

I’m really excited I can get an iMac for that price, and well it has slightly better specs I’m still wanting a laptop (I’m not a big fan of desktops), so I’m actually asking for an opinion:
iMac or PowerBook?

Given that the iMac is Intel and that you already have a Powerbook: iMac.

thats the PowerPC one, i would defilently go with the iMac, especially if your keeping your 12″. I apsolutely love my iMac (same model as that with 1.5GB ram)i have no regrets, the screen space is amazing.

wait. get a rev B intel computer. You already have one PowerPC-based computer, having a computer that runs on Intel is a great idea, you get the best of both worlds. But don’t go with a second PPC machine, get something you can keep for a while. The PowerPC era will not last much longer.

If you still have the 12″ then don’t get anything right away, save up, and then get something even better than a refurbished iMac G5. Who know what they’ll have in a few months.

Well considering you alreay had a PPC iMac for oh, about 4 months or less, I’d say another PB, since I’d bet dollars to Pepsi One, that you’d turn around & sell the iMac again.

    Peace & decisions,
    Derek.

I sold that iMac because it was Rev A. and had problems and I wasn’t about to lug a 26lb computer back and forth to the Apple store to be looked at.

Anyways, before I even buy a new comp (or refurb) I need to sell the Ti which ends in about 2 days, so I’ll make my final decision then, although I’m leaning towards saving for a Rev B. Intel Mini or a Rev B. iMac…

Doesn’t matter what you get, just keep it for more than a month.

STOP IT! Please! Just do me a favor. Ask yourself if you really need one. If you do need one, get it. And by need one I mean need one and not just want it.
    I want one too ;)
