I have to admit that Windoze has problems and Macs have less viruses. And I’m all against Vista but OSX leopard has more bugs than vista. And since it’s a minority it’s not as well supported, which means less applications. I use Linux for the fact that It’s a minority but It has MANY applications. And it will soon crush Windoze.

But for Myspace. Tried it. Hate It. Facebook turns into it. Hate it.

To an extent I agree with most of what has been said. Myspace is 99% evil shit, but I value the 1% that is useful to me. Most of what is shown on TV is utter bollocks and yet I still own a cathode ray tube.
If you own a mac and it can’t take the heat, fine; otherwise it could be a little like throwing the baby out with the bathwater.

The crashing often occurs with the Flash plug-in. I always review the submit crash report for Apple and it is always regarding ilegal or permission stuff with Flash. Of course, repairing permissions does not help. Also, the only solution I found is turning off plug-ins. Then that particular crash does not occur. In addition, I have created a new user account and boot of a clean install on an external drive. The results are the same.

However, I have a weird crash… I mean system hault that forces me to reboot several times a day regardless of where I booted from. Just clicking on a link can crash the computer. Not sure if it is related to memory and cpu. I am still on a Lombard running at 400mghz. But that is another Jerry springa show!

Anyway, check your crash logs for safari and it will always be Thread 0 that crashed. Sometimes you might get a webcore or webkit crash in there. Usually, it will be related to Flash.

So surf myspace with plug-ins disabled. Of course, that is annoying since you can listen to tunes on there.

Macs vs. PCs

1. Mac OS X is developed and owned by Apple Computers, does Dell, HP, or Gateway make its own OS… NO! Thus, Apples (a.k.a. Macs) actually work well with supported hardware (graphics cards, DVD burners, etc).

2. Macs can run Windows natively because of the Intel conversion, but no one wants to put up with bullshit unless they have to (e.g. web site developers, etc.)! I’ve had my Mac for over three years (it’s a G4), and how much spyware and viruses have I had… ZERO!!! I will not even talk about my old computer, being an HP Pavilion running Windows 98 (upgraded to XP). I’ve spent more time fixing that computer than I have doing actual work on it.

3. Mac OS X applications (such as Safari and Microsoft Office) crash, but it doesn’t take down the whole system, nor does it happen often.

4. Myspace is a pretty cool social networking website, but there are draw backs. A lot of users who incorporate HTML and CSS code don’t know anything about computer programing and web design, therefore you’re likely to encounter problems no matter what OS and browser you’re using. The best thing to do is avoid viewing the offending page.

Who expects the average person to learn web standards just so they communicate on the web?

For generations marketers and big corporations had to basically *guess* when trying to figure out how to sell you stuff based on your age, where you live, etc. etc. And what do you do? Help them set up a massive database of psychological profiles containing what you like, what you listen to, what your kinks are, what shows and movies you like and WHO YOUR FREINDS ARE! You’re SHOVELING the information at them!

They’re gonna tie this info together with your credit history, your credit card purchases, your TiVo wish lists, your medical history, employment records, etc. etc. Now they know *everything* about you!

This stuff *will* come back to bite you on the ass someday. Imagine..you’ve worked hard, got good grades, kept your nose basically clean, then in your 40s you announce your intention to run for Congress, then your opponent releases the MPEG you posted on MySpace when you were 14 (or worse, 24) of you SETTING YOUR FART ON FIRE or FLASHING YOUR TITS.

Yes, it’s that bad. Who needs surveillance? We’ve got MySpace!!

I’m told that I’m an internet snob *all the time.* Why? Because I like Google more than Yahoo. Because I like Firefox more than IE. And more importantly, because I like having a website more than MySpace!

I compare MySpace to AOL.

MySpace is the McDonalds of the internet. Instead of actually forcing people to be halfway intelligent to make a decent website, they allow any moron to have a voice; I believe we should work for it.

I’m into freedom of speech, really. But what if some company did the “MySpace” jig for the radio, television, magazines, novels, or movies (although that last one may have truth to it).

You’d have enough prepubescent angst-filled, mind-numbing (insert medium here) to render any work by professionals and enthusiasts moot.

How valuable is a Kandinsky if everyone is copying his techniques?
How good would any sport team be if they had no cut?

Psssh. Yeah right. And why can’t they just make a better site? If they have a right to make a site, then we have as much of a right to complain about it. Besides, not everyone has a choice between whether or not they will or won’t visit MySpace. What if you want to check out the source (aka the MySpace site) that a news article is refering to and you HAVE to refer to MySpace?

If someone can’t access your site, then basically you suck at making websites. You’ll lose visitors, and no one else gives a damn. Quit telling other people to “not complain”. Complaint drives change, and change, in this case, is good.

okay. the key word for myspace is CHOICE.
teens make a CHOICE about whether to give out information about themselves. they make a CHOICE to put up a picture of themselves on the site. the reason your kids are acting like idiots is not because of myspace, it’s because of LACK OF RESTRICTION on myspace. i have a myspace. i have nothing on it that i would not show to my grandmother. stop grouping all teens into one stereotypical category that never listens to their parents, have a lack of good judgement, are complete sluts, and have no self control, because thats’s not how all teens OR kids are. i have no problem with 14 year olds having a myspace. while i think it is wrong for young kids trying to act grown on the site, there is nothing wrong with making an account to make friends or simply to have your own online identity. in today’s world children want to have their own identity. i use myspace just to have a page of my own and to keep in touch with family and friends. is that so wrong? do parents honestly think that their children are cursing and watching bad tv shows and rebelling against their rules ALL because of myspace?? do they think that every single one of their children’s problems is because of MYSPACE? or are they just using that as an excuse?
my point is..if you have a kid on myspace, TRACK THEIR ACTIVITIES! just watch what they do and keep them in line.

also, if you have a crappy computer that crashes every time you go on myspace, and you HATE myspace so much, then here’s an idea…don’t go on myspace! GASP! i’m a genius. i should win an award for my outstanding idea. kthanks

Ok, Lawrence…I need to make a few minor corrections. 1) There have been and still are viruses for mac as well as PC. 2) If you’re not using an anti-virus for Mac, then you’re just as open as the “windows fanboy” that you were commenting to. I work as a technician for a computer company and I see just as many systems infected with virii that are macs.

I use both and while I agree that macs are much more stable than a pc, it doesn’t mean that one is better than the other. It’s a matter of personal preference. Personally I like mac better but, I also have 3 pc’s and none of them have blue screened on me. That’s because I know how to use it, fix it and tweak it. Most PC users THINK they know how nd then the system crashes on them.

If you actually want to browse the assault-on-all-that-is-HTML known as Myspace (WHY!?), you could try using a browser like Dillo. I don’t think there’s a version for Windows but it might run on a Mac via Darwin (Any UNIX based OS). Its a simple browser that doesn’t show backgrounds, movies, bgsound, Java Script, animated GIFs, etc, you could even go a little further and use Lynx/Links/eLinks, which is text-only.
More importantly, why bother? Myspace is horrendous. Even the ones that people try to make decent make me want to whip little babies with a cold salami. Its like someone let loose 70 million insecure pre-teens with megaphones. I don’t see why they just can’t go to some place like Ripway.com or 50Megs and make a real website…. Too lazy to learn HTML I guess.

But for connections basically. It`s definitely a resource too because 90% of my elementary school went to another school. So MySpace keeps me connected. I hate MySpace too, but it never crashes on me. I hate it for people’s layouts which is the same reason I hate Xanga. There’s not really anything you can do about it, but what really annoyed me the most is people putting background music on their sites.
I decided to just uninstall my WMP plugin, so instead I get a pop up telling me I don’t have the plugin and the stream gets downloaded to my desktop. But it’s worth not having to whiny girl, let’s kill ourselves, crap music…
