New iPods, and iTunes!

ipod_itunes.png

Well I’m not going to act like you haven’t heard the news yet (although maybe Doug hasn’t), but Apple today released a few things at the “It’s Showtime” event.

New iPod nanos: 2gb, 4gb and now 8gb capacity, and now made out of a different material.
“New” iPods: Now 30gb and 80gb iPod fifth gens.
New iPod shuffle: Now 1gb only made out of the same material as the nanos, and smaller than the original.

I’m fancying a new nano now that they came out with a 8gb version, that’ll hold all 3.69gb of my music and who knows how many photos.

Also today at the event Apple released a new version of iTunes, iTunes 7! While I personally don’t think it’s worth the upgrade others might, so I figured I’d mention it.

iTunes.

You don’t think the new iTunes is worth it? It can automatically download artwork for your music, has new ways of organizing the library including a 3-d cover view, and has this awesome new bar that shows what kinds of files are using up space on your iPod. I’m sure there are a million other features I left out. And it’s free. How is that not worth the upgrade?

My friend offered me a really nice computer for free that was better than mine, but I would have had to walk around the block to his house to take it, so I figured it wasn’t worth the upgrade.

Anonymous, two things. Why not just use your name, I see your IP and ISP anyways, secondly, it’s a matter of opinion, I personally don’t like iTunes 7, although I’m sure it’ll grow on me.

Like now I’m at least utilizing coverflow view a bit more.

You are an idiot at times. Not worth the update, even though from the comment you have downloaded it, although… who am I kidding, you’re a mac genius. Better listen to you.

Gareth, like I said before, personally I don’t really feel (FOR ME) that it’s worth the upgrade, I downloaded it before I even knew what any of the features were.

Personally, I like iTunes 7. Much more organized. I hated my library having my videos and music all bunched up on one list. The fact that I can get free cover art is awesome, I have to redo my entire collection though and re-put it on iTunes now. My biggest gripe about iTunes 7 so far though, is that when you try to import or add a song to your library, it only does 1 song at a time. So if you have to import a whole album with 17 songs, you gotta do it 17 times. I’ve so far only tried iTunes 7 on my PC though, not on my mac, so I am hoping it’ll be better on the mac.

On another note, I too am fancying a new iPod soon (when I have money). Since the video content is now pretty much twice the size it used to be, and my music library does get bigger as the weeks progress, I might want to upgrade to that 80 gig iPod someday. For now, I guess my 30 gig will have to do. I’m sure by the time I upgrade my iPod, they will have one that has it’s own orbit and whatnot, you know, cause iPods are renewed every 5 seconds.

Worth! It is free. It costs you the time it takes to download and install. Since that “price” is so low I think you would have to get absolutely nothing from the new version in order for it not to be worth it.

I think that it is worth this upgrade JUST for the coverflow integrated into it. And if you don’t like that then JUST for the new video controls. And if you don’t like that either then for the skip count feature.

    Cool.

Off topic, but nonetheless: if the bonus of having an ajax-powered navigation system is having pages instantly load sans refresh, than yours has miserably failed. Please revert back to the old one!

I’m hooked up with the new iTunes 7 and I love it (thus far!), however I do have one gripe (I’m a PC user btw)… I don’t have the fastest rig out there but I remember that it used to be a lot quicker to use iTunes 6. I wonder if anyone is having the same problems as me. (BTW, my PC only runs slower when I run the latest iTunes).

I do wanna say that I love all the new features the new version has so I’m sure that’s why it’s running slower.

I don’t know why this site has AJAX for everything. It is a real misuse. It is actually slower than traditional methods - Another vote for real pages.

I just got my 2000t and all of my songs are skipping in iTunes, and I cant figure out why. If someone could help me out and tell me how to fix this I would really appreciate it because its driving me crazy. Thanks for the replys.
