Mactel

Intel Inside Well the WWDC Keynote is over and done with, and it looks like Apple has gone and switched from IBM chips to Intel microprocessors, which would void my most recent post completely.
Apple
I personally, while it is disappointing to me, after having been a 1 and a half year switcher it’s not exactly bad news. What do we know, and I mean FACTS? All we really know is that Apple has gone from the PPC (IBM) to whatever Intel is planning on making. We don’t know if they’ll use existing processors or make something totally new just for the Mac. So before everybody comments on how bad this switch is, think about that. Don’t get pissed when you only know minimal details, like I said I’m disappointed but not mad…….YET.

In response to both this post and the previous post, this is alot like the 68k > PPC switch oh so many years ago. I’m sure everything will be the same - the next 2 or 3 versions of OS X will work on both PPC and Intel (i.e 7.6, 8.0, and 8.1 worked on 68k and PPC), and then everything will switch to Intel only (i.e OS 8.5, 8.6, and 9.x was PPC only).

I just want to give it a chance, but so many others just automatically blow it off and go “anti-mac” it’s just sad.

Me too. Besides - it’s the only way I’m EVER going to get a new Mac :-). I’ve never gotten a brand new Apple product, except for iLife ‘03 & ‘04, and Mac OSX Beta - Panther - then Tiger was gotten by… “other means”. But as for hardware, I’ve never gotten a brand new Apple product.

I’ve always wanted an iBook… so pretty, they are… I hope the iBooks have the Intel chips come WWDC 2006. BTW - I just read MacCentral’s full WWDC coverage - looks like they are going to use Pentium 4s.

Yeah… it is sort of disappointing to see a change away from the usual, but change is usually good…
I guess we all sort of associate Intel with Windows and Microsoft, but all they do is make processors. The “software-transitioning” machines they’re renting out seem to run on P4’s, but, for all we know, Intel may end up supplying our G6’s :P
