Pulled Over

NFTA Transit Police

Well, as some people have said they miss my “life updates” and blogs, well do I have one for you guys that I can’t pass up posting. It’s currently 1:15AM EST and I’ve just returned home from my first “run-in” with the “law”.

If you’re a Buffalo-Native, or even know anything about the airport, you know we have the NFTA Transit Police who pretty much patrol the airport and things like that, not real big, etc. Well, my girlfriend and I were driving around town randomly with no place to go, and I eventually got on the thruway and started driving towards the airport and we were gonna swing through the old Flying Tigers (now Mercy Flight HQ) and just drive through and make our way towards home. Well as I was leaving, a set of headlights suddenly turned on down a sidestreet, and right at that moment I figured it was a cop, and no sooner did I say “oh shit” did he turn his other lights on.

Needless to say, I quickly pulled over, shut my car off, and got my wallet ready to hand him my papers. While my girlfriend was nervous as could be, I was calm and collected because I knew that the officer couldn’t really do more than issue a warning, because it’s an area that’s posted as open to the public, and has been since they began to occupy the building. Granted it was about 12:15AM when I passed through there, so I can see where the officer’s suspicion came from, rightfully so, I mean a car with two teens driving through there late at night isn’t too normal.

So when he finally came up (after his spotlight just damn about blinded me), asked me for my license, and my girlfriend’s as well, he went back to his car and ran both our IDs and probably my plates, eventhough he didn’t give a damn about my registration, and just asked who’s car it was.

He proceeded to come back, hand me our IDs, and tell me that this was “private property” and that he had to just “check me out” to make sure nothing was going on, and then he just let me go.

So there’s a first time for everything is apparently true.

2008 Wishlist and Goals

With it now officially being the new year, I’m not one for resolutions (such as losing weight by getting a gym membership, etc) because, in my opinion it’s just false hope for the individual with the resolution, it’s something they want to do, but just can’t. So I just take a look and think of things I’d like to do, with no guarantee they’ll happen because I know who I am and I don’t expect perfection or excellence.

So without further ado, I present my goals/things I wish to complete/have happen by the end of 2008.

* Move out of my home, get an apartment somewhere in town.
* Manage my money better, I have to start saving to have #1 happen.
* Do well enough in the last half of the school year so that I’ll be setup for success at ECC come fall.
* Do various odds and ends on my car to make it more personal to me.
* Get more of my old online presence back.

There’s probably going to be more as the year progresses, but those are the major ones for me at this moment in time. Happy 2008 everybody!

Little Bit of an Update

Alright well after quite a few people have poked me about it, including my art teacher from last year when he ate lunch with us one day, so I figure I might as well give you some insight to what’s been up with me lately seeing as so many of you have asked.

Pretty much the only reason my “online presence” has been pretty much lacking is the fact that not only am I at school from 6:45AM - 1:35PM (2:20 on Wednesdays), but I usually come right home after that, except on Tuesdays and Thursdays when I go right from school to my internship at a doctors office to my paying job at Father Baker Manor (nursing home) at 4PM and I work there until 8:30-8:45ish depending on the night, get home here by 9PM and spend about 2 hours with my girlfriend and then when she leaves I head to bed, so my day is pretty occupied, I really regret not being able to blog more but such is life.

I’ll leave you with this blast from the past though:

MacBook Pro

First off as most bloggers do when it’s been a while since they’ve written an entry, let me apologize for just that, not writing an entry.

Now that that’s outta the way, you may have seen (or maybe are even subscribed to) my flickr photostream recently, and if so you’ll have seen the image at the beginning of this post before. Yes, that’s right, that’s a macro shot of the words “MacBook Pro“. Now you may be thinking “Larry has a Black MacBook, why would he take a picture of this?” well also if you’ve been looking at my photostream you’ll notice I put exactly why I had those pictures.

Basically all you need to know is milk got spilt into my BlackBook and fried it, so I got this as a replacement/upgrade, which is nice because it’ll handle Leopard a lot better.

Let me sum up the story, I was eating breakfast before school on Monday, like I do every day I have school, which was a bowl of cereal, and at the same time I happened to be working in CS3. Well I went to go reach for my keyboard to go type something, and my bowl of cereal was in between my arms, and I bumped it and some milk splashed out and hit my MacBook’s keyboard, immediately shutting the machine off. So I did what I heard you’re supposed to, take out all cords, battery, and flip the machine upside down and let it dry, which in the long run (2 days) worked fine.

The MacBook turns on and runs, but a majority of the left side of the keyboard is stuck down once you press a key, and the power adapter is being wonky when it’s plugged into the laptop, and obviously I can’t run off battery forever. So, with Leopard coming in November, my MacBook being almost paid off, I figured I should just upgrade and salvage what I could off the old laptop. While I was at work my mom ran out for me and got me the stock 15″ 2.2GHz MacBook Pro.

I came home, set it up, transferred all the data I could, now I’m up and running (minus installing my printer). So expect a review maybe this weekend or in the near future.

The Price is Right - Bob’s End

The Price is Right

I don’t know about you, but The Price is Right played a HUGE role in my childhood, everyday I would be dropped off at my Grandmother and Aunt’s house when my mom would leave for work and be left there for the day, to watch TV and sit in the living room, I always started my day with some random talk show at 9AM, move on to nothing at 10AM, and when 11AM rolled around we all agreed that it was time for The Price is Right!

Every single day I’d always watch The Price is Right, I’d get so into the games, I’d be yelling at contestants when I thought they made a wrong move in a pricing game, it was just insane I loved it.

Today was the air date of Bob Barker’s last filmed episode of Price, which aired at it’s usual 11AM timeslot and again at 8PM tonight, I missed the second half today due to a final exam I had at 11:45 so I watched the whole episode again when it aired at 8PM and I must say, as weird as this sounds I felt like Bob symbolized my childhood and now that he’s retiring it will never be the same. Most children/teenagers know it’s like an unwritten rule if you’re “sick” or you skipped school that you have to watch The Price is Right, which I always did whenever I was home from school.

Granted nobody can replace a man like Bob who was on the show for all 35 years, and a total of 50 years in television on various shows, Price will never be the same once they find his replacement at the end of the summer for the season premiere.

From the bottom of my heart Bob you will be truly missed, you were and always will be the face/voice/personality of The Price is Right, and nobody can fill those shoes!
